STUDY ON KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE TO PREVENT THE HOSPITAL INFECTON OF LAST YEAR STUDENTS IN HUE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2008

By investigation on 300 students including 150 students of Y6 in the course 2002-2008 and 150 students of Y44 in the course 2004-2008 at the Hue college of Medicine and Pharmacy on the knowledge to control and prevent hospital infections, our findings are: 1. Knowledge of students on hospital infections: - Knowledge about hospital infections: knowledge on hospital infections of both groups of students are very low, the average account is only 68.9%, there is a difference between two student groups (66.5% in Y6 and 71.3% in Y44), - Knowledge about the causes and factors causing hospital infections of the students were 87.7%, the percentage of correct answer is higher in Y6 (90.9%) than in Y44 (84.5%). - Knowledge about the source of infection and the risk of infections at the hospital's medical staff, there are 88.2% of the students investigated that have been answered correctly, the percentage of correct answer is higher in Y6 (91.2 %) than in Y44 (85.2%). - Knowledge about some measures to prevent and control hospital infections, only 72.6% of the students investigated have been answered correctly. Knowing the objective to control hospital infections for both groups of students investigated is 86.2%. - Regarding the role and meaning of hand washing in the prevention of hospital infections, with 83.9% of students answered correctly. - Knowledge about the correct measures to use reasonable antibiotics in control hospital infections for both groups surveyed is 77.7%, students of Y6 group answered correctly in higher rate 83 , 3% than in 71.9% in Y4/4 group. 2. Propose measures to improve the knowledge of students on hospital infection: There is a strong need to raise the awareness of the importance of working against hospital infections, increase training to control and prevent hospital infections, remind regularly when students practice at the hospital, examine the hospital principles for student in practice, particularly in hospital infection control and increase the scientific research of students on hospital infection.
