Hubungan Social Comparison dengan Subjective Well-Being pada Emerging Adulthood Pengguna TikTok

Abstract. Emerging adulthood is a transitional phase marked by self-exploration and role uncertainty, making individuals vulnerable to low subjective well-being. This condition may drive individuals to engage in social comparison, especially through social media platforms such as TikTok. The platform’s idealized content can intensify social comparison tendencies and lead to negative self-evaluations. This study aims to examine the relationship between social comparison and subjective well-being among TikTok users in emerging adulthood in Bandung City. Using a quantitative approach with a correlational design, 400 participants were recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) adapted by Putra (2018) for social comparison, and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) along with the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) adapted by Akhtar (2019) for subjective well-being. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation test. Results showed that 73% of participants had high social comparison levels, while 61.3% had low subjective well-being. The correlation test revealed a significance value of <0.001 and a correlation coefficient of -0.507, indicating a moderately strong negative relationship. Thus, the higher the tendency for social comparison, the lower the subjective well-being experienced. Abstrak. Emerging adulthood merupakan fase transisi yang ditandai oleh eksplorasi diri dan ketidakpastian peran, individu pada tahap ini rentan mengalami rendahnya subjective well-being. Kondisi tersebut dapat mendorong individu melakukan social comparison untuk menilai posisi dirinya, terutama melalui media sosial seperti TikTok. Penggunaan TikTok yang intensif menampilkan kehidupan ideal orang lain dapat memperkuat kecenderungan social comparison dan berdampak pada evaluasi negatif terhadap diri sendiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara social comparison dengan subjective well-being pada pengguna TikTok usia emerging adulthood di Kota Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Partisipan berjumlah 400 orang yang dipilih menggunakan teknik convenience sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data meliputi Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) yang diadaptasi oleh Putra (2018) untuk mengukur social comparison dan Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) serta Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) yang diadaptasi oleh Akhtar (2019) untuk mengukur subjective well-being. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas partisipan memiliki tingkat social comparison tinggi (73%) dan subjective well-being rendah (61,3%). Uji korelasi menghasilkan nilai signifikansi <0,001 dan koefisien korelasi sebesar -0,507, yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan negatif yang cukup kuat antara kedua variabel. Artinya semakin tinggi kecenderungan social comparison, maka semakin rendah subjective well-being yang dirasakan.
