Optical Properties of Proton-Exchanged LiNbO3 Using Capric Acid

View through CrossRef
The optical properties of high-index waveguides in z-cut LiNbO3 produced by proton-exchange with capric acid were investigated. These waveguides were characterized optically and were found by the variation of index with depth to exhibit a graded index profile with a high surface index change. The change in the surface index was larger than those obtained from benzoic acid, stearic acid and octanoic acid, and smaller than that obtained from pyrophosphoric acid. The index profile could be simply modeled by the parabolic function. The diffusion rate for the proton-exchanged process was slower than those reported for benzoic acid and pyrophosphoric acid.
