Der samische Einfluss auf die skandinavischen Sprachen

The Scandinavian languages have a number of features that distinguish them from the other Germanic languages. Although these features have parallels in the neighbouring Sami languages, a Sami influence on the Scandinavian languages has usually been categorically rejected. This is primarily due to the stigmatisation of the Sami in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This study therefore not only attempts to attribute various features of the Scandinavian languages to the influence of Sami interference, but also to show that the spread of these features was possible from a sociolinguistic perspective. The main focus is on the relationship between Sami and Scandinavians during the Common Scandinavian period. Among other things, the depiction of Sami in Old West Norse literature and the possibility of Sami influences on Scandinavian mythology will be discussed.
