Kura-Araxes culture and North-Western Iran: New perspectives from Kul Tepe Jolfa (Hadishahr)

The Kura-Araxes culture is well attested in North-Western Iran but the nearly total absence of 14C dates makes the study of the development of this culture in the region somewhat problematic. Given the importance of Kura-Araxes materials from Kul Tepe near Jolfa (Hadishahr), we will briefly describe the main stratigraphic, architectural and artifactual data from this site which produced materials from Late Chalcolithic, Kura-Araxes I, II and III phases. The radiocarbon dates of the different phases of this stratigraphic sequence create a new chronological framework for the development of the Kura-Araxes culture in North-Western Iran.
