Alabastron

Broad lip, sloping gently inwards; narrow neck with concave profile; small lug handle on neck; elongated ovoid body; flattened base; on bottom centre two concentric grooves. Buff clay; semilustrous, buff slip; lustrous black and matt, purple paint. Opening encircled by broad line; on lip top tongues between concentric lines; dots on lip edge; elongated tongues on neck; shoulder encircled by three broad lines; on body large frieze with double lotus and two confronting sphinxes - traces of added red paint on lotus, faces bodies and wings, incised details, tails curling and intertwining at back side, below handle; one double-center and one single-center rosette, several cross-incised rosettes, cross-incised dots and blobs as filling ornaments; lower body below frieze encircled by three broad lines; bottom encircled by dense tongue pattern and three (or more ?) lines.
