GUTTA PERCHA: AN OVERVIEW
View through CrossRef
Endodontic therapy involves meticulous pulp tissue removal, diligent cleaning and shaping of root canals and obturating the canal space in a three-dimensional way. To prevent failure, the root canals should be effectively prepared and filled with a suitable biocompatible obturating material. Edwin Maynard, an American endodontist, was the first to employ the obturating material, gutta-percha in dentistry almost 170 years ago. Despite widespread research and the introduction of newer root canal obturating methods, gutta-percha remains one of the most known and widely used options in health centers around the globe, owing to its capacity to entirely seal a root canal and avert bacteria from entering the region, avoiding additional difficulties and delivering a sustainable fix for the patient.
