S chultz, A dolph

Adolph Hans Schultz (1891–1976) used comparative anatomy and ontogeny to understand variation among primates. He viewed primatology, embedded in physical anthropology, through the lens of biology. Systematic cadaver dissections and standardized, comparable measurements of wild‐living and captive‐raised nonhuman primates generated a substantial dataset and large, diverse skeletal collections that allowed study of multispecies and within‐species variation. The Life of Primates (1969) was the most comprehensive, readable book about primatology when published and, like Schultz's scientific papers, included original half‐tone and pen and ink drawings.
