Paul H. Gebhard is the anthropologist who brought the study of the sexual behavior of primates to the work begun by Alfred Kinsey in the middle of the twentieth century. He was a primary investigator and interviewer for Kinsey, and after Kinsey's death became the director of the Institute for Sex Research (the Kinsey Institute) at Indiana University in Bloomington. During his tenure as director there was major emphasis placed on the collection of erotica, an effort that continues to serve scholars seeking attitudes and artifacts about sex and sexuality within human cultures.
