Solar and magnetic character‐figures, Mount Wilson Observatory April, May, and June, 1936

View through CrossRef
The bright hydrogen eruption of April 8 which was simultaneously accompanied by a major radio fade‐out occurred in a group situated in latitude north 20° and longitude west 8°. The horizontal intensity at Mount Wilson decreased suddenly by 12 gammas at 16h 45m, GCT. No magnetic storm followed and it is quite probable that the relation between this solar eruption and the disturbance in the Earth's magnetic field is very different from that which exists between solar activity and ordinary magnetic storms.1An oscillation of about 120 gammas occurred between 5h and 6h April 18. Irregular oscillations from April 19 to 24 were probably caused by an active region in the southern hemisphere which crossed the central meridian from April 21 to 23.
