কৃত্তিবাস ও মাইকেলের রামাদি চরিত্র | Ramas in Krittibas and Madhusudan

Michael Madhusudan Datta is one of the pioneer of modern Bangla poetry. Meghnadbadh Kabya is the best work of Madhusudan's, and all recognize it as a modern epic. However, the plot of this epic was derived from the ancient literary tradition of the Ramayan. Among the mentioned literary tradition, the most ancient one is Balmiki's Sanskrit Ramayan, which was written some 300-400 years before Christ. Then in the 15th century Krittibas wrote a Ramayan in Bangla. It was not in any way a faithful translation of Balmiki's Ramayan but rather a documentary of sorts of Krittibas' own time. When Michael Madhusudan Datta wrote 'Meghnadbadh Kabya' based on certain characters of the same plot, there are of course some distinctions. Analyzing utterances of Michael himself, especially his letters' and reading his epic intensively, these distinctions are identified in this essay. The discourse of this essay is based on characteristics of Ramas in Madhusudan and Krittibas.
