I am Getting Tired and Weary

Abstract
During lamson’s two months’ absence from the Gettysburg that ship had not lived up to its potential for catching blockade runners. Many hints in Lamson’s letters suggest that the reason for this failure lay in the lack of aggressiveness shown by her acting commander, William McGloin. Dissension among the officers seems to have developed, which undoubtedly hurt the ship’s efficiency. Ironically, just as Lamsom left Hampton Roads on his way to the Union coaling base at Beaufort, North Carolina, to rejoin his ship, the Gettysburg finally caught a blockade runner on the high seas off the North Carolina coast, on July 9. She was the Little Ada, a fast steamer built in Scotland in 1862 expressly for blockade running. The Gettysburg returned to Beaufort on July 14, when Lamson came on board and resumed command.
