The article discusses the topic of monuments dedicated to sporting champions, focusing on three cases in the Emilia-Romagna region: the statue dedicated to Dorando Pietri in Carpi; the installations in memory of Marco Pantani in Cesenatico and Imola; and the memorial commemorating Ayrton Senna built in the motor racing circuit of Imola. Despite the different characteristics and purposes, these works are united by the heroic dimension of the athletes represented, fueled by the tragic nature of their lives and deaths, and they all engage with the theme of memory in the sporting dimension.
