Portrait of Franz Balthasar Schönberg von Brenckenhoff. The statesman born in Reideburg near Halle is shown here as a chest to the right. His gaze passes by the observer to the left. He wears a short wig and simple clothes. The portrait is oval. It rests on a pedestal stone on which its name appears.
Franz Balthasar Schönberg of Brenckenhoff received the noble predicate through his ancestors. He worked in the services of Prince Leopold I of Anhalt-Dessau. After his death in 1747 he became chamber director of the son of Leopold I, Leopold II Maximilian. In 1762 he joined the state service for Friedrich II of Prussia and became the real secret of the Oberfinanz-, Kriegs- und Domänenrat.
The effigy was executed as a copper engraving by the Dresden miniaturist Carl Gottlieb Rasp (1752-1807). He was presented for this by a sideways painting from 1775 by the Polish-German court painter Christoph Friedrich Reinhold Lisiewski (1725-1794). Other copies of the paper are at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel and the University Library in Leipzig. The Austrian National Library in Vienna has several copies of the book. There is a variant in the Händel house foundation: BS-III 728.
