Un mécanisme de désertification méconnu : le "wala-wala"

Le système de dunes rouges dans le Sahel du Mali à l'ouest de la boucle du Niger subit un mécanisme de dégradation appelé "wala-wala" par les Bambaras. Le "wala-wala" est un mécanisme hydro-éolien de désertification : au décapage éolien de l'horizon A succède une "compaction" hydrique de l'horizon B des sols, qui deviennent ainsi incultes, ne permettent plus l'infiltration des eaux de pluies et contrarient l'alimentation des nappes aquifères.
