Practical Implications
View through CrossRef
Chapter 11 focuses on what we can do to prevent radicalization and how we can combat radicalization after it has occurred. The chapter notes that prevention and fighting of radicalization may be possible when lessons learned from the psychology of fairness judgments are taken into consideration and are combined with the classic ideal of Scientific Enlightenment that focuses on the application of critical rationalism to problems of civilization. Furthermore, prevention may be best achieved by trying to nourish agreement with democratic values. This may be realized by adherence to fair and just treatment in mature interactions in which both respect and acceptance of responsibilities are important. In this way, the chapter grounds the proposition that perceptions that things are unfair may fuel growing radicalization, whereas perceptions that things are fair may prevent or decrease radicalization.
