Lord Edward Arthur Alexander Shackleton. 15 July 1911 — 22 September 1994

Lord Shackleton was born on 15 July 1911, the youngest of three children and second son of Sir Ernest Shackleton, the great Antarctic explorer. His elder brother, Raymond, died in 1960 and his sister, Cecily, in 1957. The Shackletons, originally a Yorkshire family, settled in County Kildare in the early eighteenth century until Henry Shackleton, the father of Sir Ernest, moved back to England and sent his son to Dulwich College.
