Injuries to the eyes in sport are sufficiently common to have a significant economic impact in terms of loss of working time and cost of treatment, and they are largely preventable. Sometimes the serious nature of an eye injury is not apparent at first glance and it is important that, if damage to the eye is suspected, a proper microscopic examination is arranged without delay. One must not overlook the devastating effect such an injury can have on an individual. Despite the remarkable advances in surgical techniques the results of the treatment of severe injuries are not always satisfactory and prevention is the best approach....
