TÜRKİYE AND THE BALKANS IN THE LAST CENTURY

This study, prepared on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, aims to collectively show the developments in Türkiye and the Balkans in the last century and to evaluate Türkiye-Balkans relations within this framework. First, the main developments in the Balkans and the Ottoman Empire in the pre-Republican period will be reviewed, and then the establishment of the republican regime in Türkiye will be examined. Then, the past 100 years until today will be presented as a) the Interwar Period (called the Atatürk period here), b) the Second World War and Cold War Period, and c) the Democracy Period. Important events that left their mark on Türkiye and the Balkans in each period will be discussed and Türkiye-Balkans relations will be evaluated. Within the framework of Türkiye-Balkans relations, the situation of Turks in the Balkans will be specifically addressed.
