GW24-e0228 Comparative study of stiffness between bilateral carotid in different gender patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objectives To preliminarily evaluate the stiff difference of the bilateral carotid in men and women with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Sixty-four patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into 2 groups according gender. The stiffness (α and β), pulse wave velocity, PWV) and intima media thickness (IMT) of bilateral carotid were measured by ultrasound radio-frequency. Moreover, the difference of βdiff, αdiff, PWVdiff between bilateral carotid was calculated. For bilateral carotid, the structure and function were compared, and βdiff, αdiff and PWVdiff were analysed. Results 1) There was no significant difference of CIMT between bilateral carotid (men: 674.7 ± 145.6 μm and 653.6 ± 117.2μm; women: 637.7 ± 171.2 μm and 624.6 ± 157.2μm P>0.05). 2) For male, the α and β of carotid were higher on left than that on right (α: 5.1 ± 2.7and 4.2 ± 1.7; β: 10.5 ± 5.4 and 8.6 ± 3.4 P<0.05); but for female, the α, β and PWV had had statistical difference between left and right carotid. 3) For men, αdiff, βdiff and PWVdiff were positive correlated with SBP and blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine (αdiff: r = 0.497, r = 0.541, r = 0.619; βdiff: r = 0.495, r = 0.541, r = 0.620; PWVdiff: r = 0.478, r = 0.520, r = 0.593; P<0.05); but for women, αdiff, βdiff and PWVdiff were negatively related to height and weight, and positive related to LDL-C, blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine (αdiff: r = -0.579, r = -0.669; βdiff: r = -0.579, r = -0.672; PWVdiff: r = -0.570, r = -0.684; P<0.05). Conclusions For patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, there is significant difference of stiffness between left and right carotid, and this presents the weight of risks acting on bilateral carotid is different.
