From Rural Villages to Urban Slums: A Case study of Ajhodhiapur, Lahore
View through CrossRef
Rapid urbanization, coupled with the inability of local authorities to adequately address housing demands in urban areas, has led to the rise of informal settlements. A significant portion of slum residents live in substandard housing, facing a notable lack of essential services and facilities. Historically, rural settlements have diminished due to urban development, driven by population migration and a concentrated focus on urban growth. To examine and implies a thorough investigation into various aspects such as infrastructure, socio-economic conditions, health, education, etc., that are typically pertinent to slum areas. By selecting Ajhodiapur as case study, the paper aims to provide a detailed examination of the issues faced by a particular slum, offering insights that can potentially be applied to similar contexts. This implies that the findings and solutions derived from the examination of Ajhodiapur could have broader implications for understanding and addressing issues in other slum areas as well. After identifying and analyzing the problems in Ajhodiapur (and by extension, in slum areas in general), the paper offers potential solutions or recommendations to mitigate these challenges. This could involve policy recommendations, community-based interventions, urban planning strategies, or any other measures aimed at improving the living conditions and addressing the socio-economic issues prevalent in slum areas.
