A Timely Quick Literature Review on the Deepseek in Chinese Publication

View through CrossRef
The swift rise of DeepSeek—the Chinese generative artificial intelligence (AI) model that champions open‐source innovation—has ignited scholarly interests across frontiers. This timely quick review article derives from the analysis of 21 recent studies regarding DeepSeek and associated subjects t from the end of 2024 to date. Altogether, the literature reveals that DeepSeek not only upends existing models of AI development and deployment, but it also changes the economics of generative AI through an emphasis on open‐source collaboration, energy efficiency and people‐centered innovation. We then elaborate on how DeepSeek’s new properties — namely, a high‐performance, low‐cost training routine, powerful local deployment capabilities, and a transformative manner of content generation — defy the “capital logic” and “technological hegemony” that currently reign in Western AI. The review also examines nascent discussions regarding the “automation paradox” and the sustainability of AI systems, as well as their cultural, economic and political implications. These global articles shed light on pressing areas of research — international collaboration in AI governance, ethical regulation of open‐source platforms, and the long‐term social impacts of generative AI on labor and digital equity. In summary, ultimately DeepSeek represents a new paradigm in how we consider sustainable, democratized digital civilization as a central pillar and marketspace in the overarching AI environment globally that is otherwise entirely proprietary and often wasteful in terms of energy investment.
