Manure fertilization in organic production of green fig

View through CrossRef
Natural inputs have been increasingly used in plantation systems, especially for organic crops, as well as for environmentally friendly agricultural systems. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of cattle and bird manure on the quality and production of green figs. For this purpose, fig orchard of the cultivar ‘Roxo de Valinhos’, a Brazilian Brown Turkey, was untreated (control) and treated with 6 types of fertilization using cattle and/or bird manure. Green figs were harvested during two seasons to measure length, diameter, fresh and dry mass of figs and yield. The manure did not affect the production and the quality of the green figs. The second season showed better results for all the characteristics. Although the manure treatments did not promote both fruit quality and yield, fig trees fertilized with 20.0L of cattle manure had an increase in yield of 25.85 % compared to unfertilized fig trees.
