Hořice in Podkrkonoší, a city of stone and natural beauty

In the sandstone quarries located in the vicinity of the town of Hořice there is extracted high quality sculpture material. Therefore there has been established the Secondary Sculpture and Stone-Cutting secondary school in this town. We can watch its students working both in the school studio and in the exterior environment. The local rich sculpture tradition is documented by film shots showing various memorials and sculptural groups made by outstanding Czech authors. Various sculptures and plastic art are also exhibited in the local museum gallery. Then we can see the town's festival and watch the members of the local theatre group performing historical scenes inspired by A. Jirásek's novels. Film shots presenting the buildings of significant town's institutions (the town hall, etc.) are followed by those showing interiors of important local industrial plants - textile factory, the Hořice engineering plant, factory producing wooden toys and the local brewery. We can watch people harvesting apples in the neighbouring orchards. Then the film presents the local elementary and vocational schools, the district hospital and the local orphanage. A part of the film is dedicated to the visit of President Masaryk in 1926. The film stroll around the town and its vicinity ends up at the nearby airport, where we can watch an aviation day. The final part of the film is dedicated to visitors to the swimming pool, we can watch them enjoying various water plays and sports.
