Surficial geology, Foley Island, central Baffin Island, Nunavut

This map is part of a series depicting the surficial geology of Central Baffin Island. The mapping of Quaternary deposits, measurement of ice flow indicators, interpretation of glacial and post-glacial history, and geochemical sampling of the till in this area are part of an integrated multi-component mapping project led by Marc St-Onge and supported by the Geological Survey of Canada, the Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office, and the Polar Continental Shelf Project. Field work related to the surficial geology component was conducted in 2001 and 2002. Field traverses and air photo interpretation provided information on the nature and distribution of surface materials shown on the map, which was constructed using 1:60,000 scale aerial photographs compiled onto a 1:100,000 scale base.
