Abstract
Always Like This
I want to get well, but I can’t, it seems,
And I’m still disturbed in my restless dreams, And I just can’t catch the sunlight’s beams.
Will it always be like this?
There’s something bothers me all night. It hectors, taunts till the morning’s light, And the mirror shows me a sorry sight.
Will I always look like this?
I try to do just as the doctors say And do it all in the proper way,
But still I drag on thru’ listless days. Will all days be like this?
But one thing sure, there’s room for a grave On the old home ranch where the free
winds rave,
And its one long rest, with sorrow saved, Then it will not be like this.
I’m sick of the hustling to and fro,
And I want to go where there is no woe, But I don’t dare tell the doctor so,
That things are so amiss,
For he’d give me a funny look,
And write me up in a black-bound book Where the suicidal notes are took,
I’d be much worse off than this.
