View through CrossRef
This chapter investigates the importance of memories in Joachim Trier’s filmography. Memory and remembrance are recurring topics in all of Trier’s films, both in the form of individual and private remembrances and collective and shared recollections. Taking the opening of Oslo, August 31st as the starting point, but engaging with selected scenes from all five films, this chapter discusses Trier’s films as ways of thinking about and talking about memory. The chapter lays out some chief characteristics of all five feature films, focusing on plot, and functions as an introduction to Trier’s filmography and some of the other central themes in the book.
