FURNITURE DESIGN: THE TECHNOLOGICAL EVOLUTION OF DRAWER SLIDES

The design of furniture accessories encompasses various types of products, including drawer slides, which are among the main fittings used in furniture. Given the growth of the drawer slides market and the innovations associated with these products, this article aims to analyze the technological evolution of drawer slides and their contribution to furniture design. Through a diachronic analysis based on international patent registrations, the three most innovative companies in the market were identified, along with four main categories of patented products: roller runners, ball bearing slides, undermount slides, and metal drawers. In conclusion, the evolution of slides can be classified according to technical quality, ergonomic quality, and aesthetic quality, highlighting the importance of proper specification in design projects. The Diachronic analysis documentation brought to light changes that have already been materialized and their importance to the strong technological advancements of furniture, increasing its value and influencing consumer purchasing decisions.
