Drummond e os vapores de um sequestro

This article, with an essayistic bias, starts from the poem “Desdobramento de Adalgisa”, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, to put into motion Mário de Andrade’s hypothesis that there would be a kidnapping, that is, a repression of desire in the poet’s first books. Faced with the dismantling of images that go through “Desdobramento de Adalgisa”, a trace of hysteria seems to emerge that foresees a disorder of the poetic gesture. In a second moment, we show how reverberations of Adalgisa’s hysteria can be seen in the erotic, floral and metamorphic imagination of O Amor natural and also in the indomitable aspect of the anti-euclidean orchid-nymph that subverts the limits of geometry. Such subversion by the desire-image that is the orchid allows us to conclude that the kidnapping transforms into something else, taking on new contours as desire begins to exist as a crossing of the abyss, a way of insisting on life and the world despite death.
