Giallo Antico marble sample

View through Harvard Museums
Large giallo antico marble sample said to be from the Via Firenze in Rome. It is cut and has a straight line along one side, where it is 2.5 cm thick. The other edges are broken. The top is flat and polished smooth. The underside is rough and less of the yellowish-orange color shows through. There appears to be remains of Roman mortar on the underside, perhaps showing where this sample would have been attached as part of a wall or floor.
