Life and work of Carlos Vidal Box (1906-1972)

In this article, the figure and the scientific and pedagogical contributions of Carlos Vida Box, a prominent figure in the Spanish teaching and scientific scene (specifically in the fields Physical Geography, Geology and Geomorphology) between the years 1940 and 1970 are glossed. Carlos Vidal represents one of the most relevant Natural Sciences educators in the Spanish educational system of the XX century, both in Secondary Education as research work, standing out above all in the great Exhibition of relief models or block diagrams organized at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (NMNS) in 1944. For the preparation of his life trajectory and the exhibition of his scientific, didactic and pedagogical contribution we have used various sources of documentation, mainly official documents and private correspondence preserved by the family, in addition, of course, to his own writings and the echo they have had among specialist. En este artículo, se glosan la figura y las aportaciones científicas y pedagógicas de Carlos Vidal Box, figura destacada en el panorama docente y científico español (en concreto en los campos de la Geografía Física, Geología y Geomorfología) entre los años 1940 y 1970. Carlos Vidal representa, a uno de los más relevantes didactas de las Ciencias Naturales en el sistema educativo español del siglo XX tanto en la Enseñanza Media, como en su labor investigadora, destacando sobre todo en la gran Exposición de maquetas en relieve o bloques diagrama, organizada en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN) en 1944. Para la confección de su trayectoria vital y la exposición de sus aportaciones científicas, didácticas y pedagógicas nos hemos servido de fuentes diversas de documentación, principalmente de documentos oficiales y de la correspondencia privada conservada por la familia, además, por supuesto, de sus propios escritos y el eco que han tenido entre los especialistas.
