Ḥorbat Kalanit

In June–July 2012, a salvage excavation was conducted east of Kalanit and just west of Highway 65 (Permit No. A-6533; map ref. 24444/75360; Fig. 1), following damage to archaeological remains in the course of road-widening works. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Netivei Israel Company, was directed by G. Finkielsztejn and U. Berger, with the assistance of Y. Yaakobi (administration), L. Porat (area supervision), F. Abu Zidan (administration, community relations), R. Mishayev and M. Kahan (surveying and drafting), Sky View (aerial photography), A. German-Argita (digital documentation), H. Tahan-Rosen (plans, finds drawing), R. Be’eri (Middle Bronze Age pottery, scientific consultation), N. Feig (Roman and Byzantine pottery), R. Kool (numismatics), M. Shemer (flint; see appendix), M. Bekker-Shamir (stoneware), A. Shapiro (studio photography) and workers from Tiberias.
