Repenser Ottavio Leoni. Les relations avec les Orsini et un nouveau portrait en petit format
Dans la reconstruction des relations fondatrices pour l’évolution et la promotion de la carrière d’Ottavio Leoni la famille Orsini a joué un rôle essentiel, en devenant rapidement la plus importante parmi les mécènes romains de ce peintre d’origines padouanes. À la mise en évidence de ces relations concourent des traces inédites de paiements de la part de la famille romaine, une Note des gravures d’Ottavio Leoni imprimées par Ippolito et destinées à Paolo Giordano II Orsini, ainsi qu’une passion pour les portraits de petit format, pratique d’excellence dans sa production. Afin de repenser d’un point de vue critique la figure de Leoni et son importance, l’étude proposée dans cet essai reconsidère non seulement la famille Orsini mais aussi la production de miniatures, tenant également compte d’un nouveau portrait inédit, et s’articule autour de sources et témoignages graphiques, en dialogue avec la peinture contemporaine.
