Abstract This paper intends to present the character from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Caliban in the work El triunfo de Caliban written by Nicaraguan Ruben Dario. This study seeks to identify the critique made by the writer Ruben Dario and understand the term postcolonial narratives with a focus on the American colonies, USA and Cuba. Through a critical analysis of Ruben Dario’s Caliban. Literary issue in an associated way, the proposed theorization is structured on the process of interpreting the Shakespeare characters of ‘The Storm as one of the revealing paths of the colonial reality established in Latin America, reviewing the new economic power patterns imposed by coloniality. Therefore, we saw the need to dialogue Rubén Dario’s thought with the calibanesca conceptions of the Cuban writer Roberto Fernández Retamar, with the purpose of updating the anti-imperialist assumptions associated with the Latin American decolonial thought thus, the literary is understood as a way to discover new perspectives about the Latin American colonial condition in the face of new political and social dynamics.
