Meditación sobre la tolerancia: una aproximación fenomenológica

This study intends to carry out an appreciative and a critical meditation on the tolerant attitude; it takes into account its meaning as well as the relation of its meaning with historical circumstances, and its genesis seen from the personal point of view as well as from that of the common life. The issue is focused through Husserl’s genetic phenomenology. Toleration is an attitude and as such it results from motivations, habitualities, evaluations and convictions subjectively and intersubjectively instituted by the embodied consciousness, rooted in the lived world. It concerns the history of an originary institution that can be analysed from the personal point of view as well as from that of the «common spirit» (Gemeingeist). This study intends to show the process that culminates in the functioning of the tolerant attitude, after having taken into brief account different forms of toleration throughout history. It concludes by means of an approach to the sense in which the topic of toleration can be thought of nowadays.
