‘What Doest Thou Here, Elijah?’ A Look at St Mark’s Account of the Transfiguration
View through CrossRef
Abstract
This chapter presents an essay on Saint Mark's account of the transfiguration of Jesus. It explains that there is an intriguing and unusual reference to time related to the Transfiguration and suggests that this may be because of the demand for secrecy required of the apostles after the resurrection of Jesus. The Apostle Mark probably wanted people to see the Transfiguration as a confirmation not only of Jesus' messianic status but also of the necessity of the way of suffering, death, and resurrection which lie before him.
