Nonaneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

View through CrossRef
Abstract: Spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage can arise from several possible sources, including cerebrovascular malformations, malignancy, or other disorders. Careful clinical examination as well as specialized radiological studies are essential to ensure correct diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. This chapter reviews the diagnostic workup and additional considerations in the management of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage from a nonaneurysmal source. This form of subarachnoid hemorrhage is a distinct clinical entity with a generally more benign course. However, proper work-up and management are necessary both to ensure that a more serious form of subarachnoid hemorrhage does not exist and that the complications that can arise do not cause patient morbidity.
