Arlen, Leo Robin, and Dorothy Fields

Abstract
In the later 1940s and 1950s, at the height of his compositional powers and productivity, Arlen collaborated for the first time with two veteran lyricists, Leo Robin and Dorothy Fields. With Robin he wrote excellent songs for the film Casbah (1947), including “What’s Good About Goodbye” and “It Was Written in the Stars.” For the film Mr. Imperium (1951) Arlen and Fields created the melodically rich and expansive “Let Me Look at You” to suit operatic voice of Ezio Pinza. Arlen and Fields wrote thirteen numbers for The Farmer Takes a Wife (1953). Highlights include “With the Sun Warm Upon Me.” One song cut from the film, “Look Who’s Been Dreaming,” is a harbinger of Arlen’s later style.
