Tales of Perrault illustrated by Gustave Doré - La Belle au bois dormant (Folio 80)

It was in 1862 at Hetzel that was published the edition of Perrault's fairy tales illustrated by Gustave Doré, considered one of the best editions of this text. Gustave Doré reinvents woodcut, it uses a technique called "wood color" that provides better contrasts and shades particular to the rendering of light and shadow that express the atmosphere and sense of design. In the tales of Perrault, the eleven best wood engravers of the time were enlisted to engrave with burin forty wooden planks.
