Review / Reseña. Aviva Chomsky. Central America’s Forgotten History: Revolution, Violence, and the Roots of Migration. 2021

View through CrossRef
Aviva Chomsky’s Central America’s Forgotten History: Revolution, Violence, and the Roots of Migration shows how decades of US influence over security and economic policies led to Central America’s current lack of governance, security, and economic opportunity, which combine to force migration to the United States. Chomsky’s multidisciplinary analysis traces how US programs for state-building, national security, and economic restructuring, especially in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, found a receptive elite yet disenfranchised the majority. The author offers a well-resourced, complete and concise history of interest to readers with and without expertise in Latin American studies.
