Análise fonética do vocabulário Galibi de Curt Nimuendajú (1883-1945)

This study aims to analyze the Galibi vocabulary recorded by Curt Nimuendajú in 1925, seeking to understand and propose a graphematic/phonetic study of this language. The research uses Nimuendajú's notation system, transposing it to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and investigating particular phonetic-phonological patterns of the language. Methodological procedures by Grannier-Rodrigues (1990), Constenla Umaña (2000), and Vasconcelos (2011a, 2011b) were considered for the analysis of the written records. The analysis of the Galibi vocabulary reveals the complexity of the notation used by Nimuendajú and the need for adaptations for an accurate transposition to the IPA. Hypotheses about the phonetic-phonological and morphological organization of the language were identified, considering the particularities of the record and comparisons with other languages of the Karib family. We consider that this research contributes to the studies of indigenous languages of the state of Amapá and can enhance the studies of languages of the Karib family. Despite the inherent weaknesses in the study of written sources, the transposition to the IPA allows an approximation to the phonetic reality of the Galibi language, fostering future phonological and morphophonological analyses.
