Investigation of jatobá and its bioactive potential of interest in the food industry: a bibliometric mini-review
View through CrossRef
The jatobá-do-cerrado (Hymenaea stigonocarpa) is an underexplored species originating in the Brazilian Cerrado biome but found in the Amazonia, Pantanal, and Caatinga biomes. Unlike other species of Hymenaea, H. stigonacarpa is still little studied in the biochemical, pharmaceutical, and medicinal areas. Although there is knowledge about the content and antioxidant potential of the fruit, there is a gap in the application of this in the food industry. In order to address the state of art about jatobá, a mixed review methodology was applied using bibliometric analysis and literature review. The articles under study were obtained from the Web of Science© (WOS) database, conducted in June 2023. The data filtering came from the term "Hymenaea stigonocarpa" in the topic item without a year filter. The data collected were analyzed in VOSviewer software (Java version 1.8.0_261). Without the year filter, we could obtain all the articles from this database referring to this species and analyze only the research and review articles, totaling 95 documents. Jatobá-do-cerrado has medicinal, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties contributing to the benefit of human health. In the fruit, one can highlight several features in the peel, leaves, and fruits used in the form of tea, infusion, lamber, syrup, culinary, and handicrafts. This study shows that jatobá has potential in several areas and in the food area.
