Can political connection promote policy advocacy of social work organizations in China?
View through CrossRef
Abstract
Policy advocacy is an important function and service content of social work organizations. The role of political connection in policy advocacy by social work organizations is controversial and has not been fully discussed in China. The study examined the association between political connection and policy advocacy and the moderating effects of executives’ specialization, among social work organizations in China. Based on a sample of 687 organizations and the Oprobit Regression Model method, the findings confirmed that political connection was positively related to social work organizations’ policy advocacy. Also, the positive effect between political connection and policy advocacy was moderated by executives’ specialization. Specifically, the positive effect between political connection and policy advocacy was more substantial when executives of social work organizations had a higher level of specialization. The results of this study enrich the empirical research on social work policy practice and provide a reference for the debate on political connection and policy advocacy.
