INCORPORATION OF INDIGENOUS IMAGERY AT THE PERFORMANCE OF MACUNAÍMA BY GRUPO PAU-BRASIL

View through CrossRef
This research investigates the incorporation and appropriation of Indigenous Brazilian culture to the staging of modernist performances. Through a vast bibliographic analysis of the production of Macunaíma by Grupo Pau-Brasil in the late 1970s, the anthropofagical use of traditional Indigenous imagery gives meaning to the solidification of a new sense of national identity in the Brazilian stage. The research employs interpretative methods to assign the potential impact of the piece, as well as study its planning process, which accounted for the adaptation of foreign influences to blend in with traditional, ancestral pieces of culture.
