A Field Report from Camera-Trap Preliminary Survey Records of Malayan Tapir (Tapirus indicus) in Chabang Tongkat and Ulu Sat Forest Reserves, Kelantan, Malaysia

View through CrossRef
There is not much information on wildlife and Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus) in Chabang Tongkat Forest Reserve (CTFR) and Ulu Sat Forest Reserve (USFR). From this study’s preliminary survey using camera traps deployed in Chabang Tongkat and Ulu Sat Forest Reserves, a presence of Malayan tapir in both forest reserves were recorded, even though this study was not specifically targeting the Malayan Tapir. The photo that captured the presence of Malayan tapir in both study areas is believed to be important and provides baseline information about the species. The result also clearly showed that the total trap night effort was lower in USFR compared to CTFR. More intensive systematic sampling is needed to get more details and information about this species. The findings also showed that the Malayan Tapir is detected within the Central Forest Spine (CFS) as selected study sites are part of that area. The activity classes differed between both forest reserves where that the Malayan Tapirs in CTFR were active during day and night compared to that of USFR which were nocturnal.
