Painted in England during the artist’s first stay there 1768-1780. It is likely to have been acquired in the last year of the 1770s. The painting shows tangible similarities with the existing (NM 1543) in Nationalmuseum (Stockholm). In addition to the similar anticizing architecture, these paintings have a common greyish tint of colour and reminiscent of mirroring water surfaces. In addition, both of these paintings have a common provenance for the collection of Jean Bolinder (1813 - 1899) and they were sold on the same occasion in 1899.
