L’œuvre d’Igiaba Scego, femme et écrivaine : une vision interculturelle de l’héritage postcolonial
View through CrossRef
A new literary phenomenon, still in its infancy, is slowly growing in Italy: migrants’ children, born and/or raised in Italy, have begun to write. These writers evolves in italian society even if their origins are far more distant that the Mediterranean area: they include Congolese and Somalis, whose perspective rejects the idea of a monolithic sense of belonging. Their goal is to find a place to live without denying their origins or the community where they were born. We can therefore ask if these writers belong to an “in-between” dimension that characterizes them and locates them within the multidimensional spaces of hybrid culture; we can also ask whether their individual and cultural evolution in the Mediterranean, away from their parents’ countries of origin, has an influence on their writing. This article explores the work of Igiaba Scego, a writer marked by her experiences of immigration and Italian colonization, two important events in her life. Born in Italy in 1974 to Somali parents, in addition to her writing career, Scego, also collaborates with Italian news-papers, like «L’Unità». Her writing is the focus on this article because she addresses different themes: how migration and the Italian colonization affected women, the dialogue between cultures in Italy and women’s role in the intercultural society.
