Ambiguity and Vagueness in Video Game Sound

Abstract Mark Grimshaw-Aagaard makes the case that focus should be placed on the study of ambiguity and vagueness in relation to video game sound design and analysis. In this, he proffers the opinion that ambiguity and vagueness should be utilized as video game sound design tools not least as an antidote to the dead-end of deathly realism. Grimshaw-Aagaard begins his chapter with a brief survey of ambiguity in language and vagueness in the natural sciences, before he demonstrates how an understanding of our perception’s ability to easily resolve and deal with these everyday facts of life can enhance video game sound design.
