ORTHODOX PRIESTS OF THE KALININ DIOCESE IN 1940-1950

View through CrossRef
The article examines the role of the clergy of the Kalinin Diocese in the revival of parish life in the 1940-1950 based on the materials of the records of the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church, the archive of the Tver Diocesan Administration, the memoirs of contemporaries within the framework of changes in statechurch relations. The priests of the prewar ordination and those who reordained after 1941 are considered separately by age, education, professional skills. On the example of the memoirs of Archpriest Alexei Zlobin, the details of the religious life and everyday life of a rural priest are revealed. The conclusion is made about the problems of restoring church life locally due to the low educational level of the clergy, conflicts and degradation of parish life, expressed in the loss of prerevolutionary tradition, the appearance of illegal clergy, the union of official and «popular» Orthodoxy.
