Priestly Law

The chapter presents a short history of research on the Priestly Code, Holiness Code, and priestly law from pre-exilic and post-exilic times in the composition of the Pentateuch. It then describes developments of priestly law in the Covenant Code, Deuteronomy, the priestly description of the Tabernacle in Exodus 25–31, the orders of priests and Levites, the consecration and inauguration of the High Priest, and the development of priestly institutions according to the accounts of Leviticus and Numbers and the priestly Torot on festivals and on purity. Section 12.3 presents a survey on present perspectives in scholarly research on priestly law.
